Jannik Sinner's explosive late-season surge earned him praise from the ex-coach of Serena Williams, who was also impressed by the Italian's endearing qualities.

Sinner finished the 2023 season with a flourish. He won the ATP 500 title in Vienna, beating Daniil Medvedev for the second time in as many weeks. The 22-year-old also headlined the championship match at the ATP Finals in his home country, where he was beaten by World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

But Sinner avenged the loss against the Serbian by beating him in both singles and doubles at the Davis Cup in Malaga, where Italy went to the promised land. The World No. 4 played a pivotal role in steering his country to its first Davis Cup success since 1976 and garnered national hero status back home.

In a recent episode of The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, former WTA doubles No. 1 Rennae Stubbs stated that Jannik Sinner was "getting better and better at everything" courtesy of subtle improvements in his forehand and serve while also underlining his charisma away from the court.

"I love Jannik (Sinner). You know how I feel about him. I just think he's great, he's such a good kid, he's so nice to everybody. He's just such a pleasure to be around on all occasions. As you said he's tinkered around with the forehand with the serve and getting better and better at everything."

Sinner had some of the best stats within a 52-week period on the ATP Tour, ranking in the Top 10 among serve leaders with a higher rating than some of the sport's biggest servers. The San Candido native is also impressive numbers behind his return and was the second-best player with a higher aggregate rating in break points and tiebreaks.

With the 2023 season in the books, Sinner is already looking to start on a clean slate next season and is undeterred by pressure to meet people's expectations. He is expected to play at the Koyoong Classic in Melbourne in the buildup to the Australian Open next month.
