The uncle of Andy Murray, Niall Erskine slammed Wimbledon for leaving Andy Murray off of their most recent promotional photo.
Wimbledon hasn't even started and we've already seen several controversies regarding the event. The event has been doing a very active promotional campaign ahead of it but they made a few choices that left fans angered. First, they published a teaser that didn't really feature Novak Djokovic angering his fans.
Then the Serbian was left off of the promotional poster leaving his fans even more angered. He was not the only player missing from that poster as WTA defending champion Elena Rybakina also wasn't on it. After public outcry, the event updated the poster adding both Djokovic and Rybakina.
Now they've been slammed by the uncle of Andy Murray for leaving him off of the latest promo material which highlights some of the more iconic rivalries the event saw over the years. Multiple players were featured on it with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner highlighted at the front - the future of tennis. Behind them, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal were walking down the stairs.
In a row behind them, the likes of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert with John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, and Boris Becker showed. Erskine took issue with Murray being absent despite being a two-time champion.
Being a native British player made it even worse for Erskine and he has a point. Great Britain didn't see a player win Wimbledon for a very long time before Murray got it done.
Appalling at every level, all about the men in the forefront and your own British history maker nowhere to be seen. You should be ashamed of yourselves
It's a fair point because Murray is a history-maker both in British tennis and Wimbledon history. And according to Erskine, he could have easily been added alongside Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal.
