Ben Shelton and Christopher Eubanks will compete at the 2024 Houston Open, also called the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship.
The two stars of US tennis confirmed their entry into the Houston-based event, which will take place between Mach 30 and April 7 next season. In addition, Shelton and Eubanks will join compatriot and the tournament's reigning champion, Frances Tiafoe, at the River Oaks Country Club.
It will be a tournament first for both Shelton and Eubanks next season as they make their Men’s Clay Court Championship debuts. When speaking about the news on the official Men’s Clay Court Championship website, Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer said he was delighted to see the two players join the 2024 roster.
"Ben and Chris won over a lot of fans during their breakout seasons in 2023, and we are thrilled that both will be playing at River Oaks in 2024."
"They are two very exciting players to watch as well as great people off the court. With them joining Frances in the field, we wish the tournament was going to be getting underway a little sooner than it will.”
In 2023, Shelton and Eubanks caught the eye of many tennis fans and pundits for several standout displays. Also, the two US players were nominated for the ATP Tour Most Improved Player Award to highlight the level of their development over the last 12 months.
Shelton has recorded several big wins throughout 2023 and gone deep into some of the Grand Slams. Most notably, the 21-year-old earned plaudits by reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals in January before going further and making the US Open semi-finals in September.
Eubanks has also improved in 2023 and lifted his first-ever ATP title in June when he won the Mallorca Open. The 27-year-old went on to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals in July and reached his career high of 29th in the ATP standings.
