Casper Ruud showed that he has some doubts ahead of his exhibition tour with Rafael Nadal during his off-season.
Ruud will join Nadal on their South American tour. The ATP World No. 2 and 3 players plan to play in several South American countries. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico are among the countries that the two players plan to visit.
Immediately after their tour was announced, there were many question marks raised. Both will basically sacrifice their off-season, which could prove to be very costly.
Instead of recovering and preparing for the new season, they will extend their season even further, continuing without any break. However, when asked about it, Ruud admitted that he felt honored to be invited, even though he knew that it might be really challenging.
"It’s something that I was honored to be invited to the Latin American tour with Rafa. I’m not going to say it’s going to be very demanding. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. Let’s see when I get back. I still will have many days to recover from the jet lag and whatever."
Ruud knows that it will take a lot of flying, but he said that since tennis players are used to that, he expects not to be as impacted by that. At the same time, he thinks that the tour will end in time for him to prepare for the Australian Open.
"I guess we are more used to it than maybe other people, to travel around, fly a lot. The jet lag is luckily easier going there, but when you get back is where it sort of kills you."
"Luckily, I’ll be in good time to have some good practice days and relax a little bit before we head to Australia. But let’s see how the body reacts to it."
