Danish tennis player Holger Rune has his sights set high as he looks towards his future in the sport.
After a hard-fought match at the 2023 Mexican Open, where he fell short to eventual champion Alex de Minaur due to cramps, Rune remains optimistic about his potential for success and future.
Despite the disappointment of his loss, Rune was full of praise for the Mexican Open in a recent ATP Tennis Podcast, describing it as a beautiful place with an unbelievable Centre Court. He also mentioned that his body felt good after receiving treatment for some previous issues.
" It's a beautiful place and I really enjoyed it. The beach is beautiful. The hotel is nice. The Centre Court is unbelievable. So my body feels good. Had a few problems a couple of weeks ago, but I've healed got the treatment done, and I'm ready to play now."
This positivity is indicative of Rune's mindset towards his tennis career. Despite experiencing a heartbreaking loss also in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, where he lost a 5-2 lead in the fifth set and missed two match points against Andrey Rublev, Rune remains focused on the future.
"I think it was, obviously, a lot to learn because losing a match like that hurts a lot. It's normal, but we gotta find a way to get over it as fast as possible, which I did. So it was good. But being composed on those important moments is really important because, playing a top guy like Rublev, you know, he's gonna stay composed."
In an interview, Rune shared his hopes for the future, stating what he is hoping for by the time he reaches the age of 30. Making the prediction, the young Dane said:
"I'm hoping for a lot of Grand Slam titles and a lot of success for sure."
