Holger Rune has received some harsh criticism about his temper from Serena Williams' former coach, Rennae Stubbs.
Despite some sensational form that has led to a final at Monte Carlo and a victory at the Munich Open over Botic van de Zandschulp, 19-year-old Rune continues to struggle with keeping his emotions in check on the court.
The on-court actions of the young Dane have divided opinion and he believes the outbursts show passion rather than anything more sinister. However, when considering Rune's behaviour on her own podcast, Stubbs said the Dane is creating a negative reputation for himself.
"Rune is proving himself to be so good on all surfaces, He's so young. But, Man! He's disliked on tour. Is there a person that likes this kid? It's amazing; he just p***es people off on the court and the garbage that he carries on with."
Stubbs also shared her dislike for Rune's behaviour. She also believes Rune's young age is a factor in his hot-headedness and she feels the world number seven will calm down as he matures.
"I'm hoping that with time, by the time he's 22 or 23, he's kinda calmed down a little bit with that, I don't know, being so punchable, can I say that? Punchable with his antics, and the way carries on,"
In a further analysis of Rune's antics, Stubbs believes the over-exertion of mental and physical actions could hinder Dane's fitness moving forward.
"I mean, he was smacking Rublev; he gets up 4-1, and bang, the cramps start again. And he's had an issue with this in the past, where the cramping has really hurt him, and I just wonder how much of that has to do with his emotions and his ups and downs,”
