Rune Explains Mom's Absence In Rotterdam And Future Changes About Her Presence

Holger Rune's mother, Aneke, was always present at his matches, but that's going to change a bit in the future.

Aneke Rune has been a vital part of the young Dane's tennis team for a very long time. She's held various roles, such as press manager, which she stopped recently, but she is also his biggest fan and supporter on the tennis court.

She was present with him at all his matches, while his father didn't travel as much as Aneke. That will change slightly in the future because she won't be present at all his matches anymore.

Speaking to Sport TV 2, Rune explained that it will be a bit random from now on. She wasn't with him at the 2024 Rotterdam Open, but they still talked on the phone.

"It's a bit random. She's going to be there some tournaments and not be there. She is still on the phone a lot, and we talk both before games and after games. So she is a huge part of my team and I love having her by my side."

The event wasn't that great for Rune as Alexander Shevchenko beat him in three sets. The Danish player has been struggling with some physical issues lately but was seemingly healthy in Rotterdam.

When it comes to this new dynamic with his mother, he thinks it's healthy to do it this way, the same way he does it with his physical trainer, who also doesn't attend all of the tournaments.

I think it's healthy that we run some tournaments together, and some we don't - just like Lapo (physical trainer, ed.) wasn't there this week either. So that's how it is.It was a joint decision that I took UTS Oslo and Rotterdam alone, and then I either fly to Nice or Denmark, and then we catch up.
