Carlos Alcaraz played only one match at the 2024 Argentina Open, and he's in the quarter-final, taking on Andrea Vavassori for a spot in the semi-final.
It's been a pretty good return for the 20-year-old, who only needed to play one match to find himself in the quarter-final. The match itself was a lately typical Alcaraz performance, which was both good and bad.
It was good in the sense that he was able to show some pretty good tennis despite not playing for a while. The bad parts were his inconsistencies, as he fell behind early in the second only to turn the score around.
He then nearly lost the lead in the set again, which isn't going to be punished against most players, but that's something that can lose big matches at Grand Slams, which happened to the Spaniard recently.
He's had issues with that for a while, and that's not good. Now, looking ahead, Alcaraz is heavily favored to make the semi-final, taking on Andrea Vavassori from Italy.
Head-to-head:
Alcaraz never played against his opponent, but that's not a huge surprise. Vavassori is currently ranked 152nd in the world, and that's with a pretty good start in 2024. These two players are not on the same level, and it's really expected that Alcaraz wins easily.
It could get a bit complicated if the Spaniard once again doesn't show his best performance, but for the most part, this is a matchup he should be able to win easily.
Carlos Alcaraz | Andrea Vavassori | |

2 | Rank | 152 |
20 | Age | 28 |
4-1 | 2024 W/L | 0-0 |
159-44 | Career W/L | 5-7 |
Prediction:
I do expect him to take care of business, but I'm not entirely sold on him completely cruising through this matchup. The Italian can be a tricky player to beat, and if the Spaniard spams too many errors, which he can do, then we might get a close set or two.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in two sets.
