Holger Rune has announced that he is extending his arrangement with the Mouratoglou Academy.
The Danish No. 1 has created headlines off the court in recent months. In October, he hired six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker as his coach, and their partnership continues for the upcoming season.
In addition, Rune added a former coach of Roger Federer's to his team. That man was Severin Luthi, who was a part of the Swiss legend's team for 15 years, from 2007 to 2022.
Rune also practiced recently with the returning Rafael Nadal. The 20-year-old was complimentary of the Spaniard's level, and thinks he can challenge for big trophies. The Grand Slam quarterfinalist will hope he can do the same.
One collaboration that did end before the changes Rune made was having Patrick Mouratoglou as his coach. Serena Williams' former coach held that position with the Dane for 12 months.
That partnership ended after the US Open. Although Rune did achieve some good results with Mouratoglou in his team, it seems he felt having someone with experience of winning Grand Slams like Becker is what he needed.
However, there is clearly no lingering animosity after Rune's decision to part ways with Mouratoglou as his coach. In fact, Rune appreciates the impact that the Mouratoglou Academy has had on his development, and wants it to continue.
Rune expressed his delight that the partnership with the Mouratoglou Academy was continuing.
"Looking forward to my extended collaboration with the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. Thank you for your loyal support and for making this possible."
Rune now has a formidable setup behind him. Training at one of the most prestigious tennis academies in the world and having the former coaches of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in his team gives him a great chance of progressing further.
It will be fascinating to observe whether Rune, who starts his 2024 season in Brisbane, can make those strides in 2024.
