'Proud': Injured Shapovalov Supports Fiancé Bjorklund At US Open After His Withdrawal

Denis Shapovalov is not playing at the 2023 US Open, but he's fully immersed in the event due to his fiancé competing.

Shapovalov and Bjorklund have been dating for a very long time now, even though not many know about them as a couple. They're a tennis couple as well because both are professional players, though Bjorklund hasn't yet reached the heights that the Canadian managed to.

She's been playing better tennis than him lately as the Swedish player booked her maiden US Open main draw appearance. Bjorklund has generally been pretty good this year, winning 22 of the 38 matches she played.

In New York, Bjorklund downed Makenna Jones, Leolia Jeanjean, and Ankita Raina in straight sets to book a spot in the main draw. She'll face Elise Mertens in the opening round, which is a very hard opponent. They did play once this year (Bogota), and Bjorlund actually won that match.

Whether she can replicate that performance on the hard courts remains to be seen, but stranger things have happened. Shapovalov was there in New York with Bjorklund, and he supported her in every match. After she booked the main draw, Shapovalov posted on social media celebrating her achievement.

He's always been quite supportive of Bjorklund penning a Player's Tribune piece arguing for more investment into women's tennis after being shocked at how little they earn. They recently got engaged as well, which they happily shared with the rest of the world.

When it comes to Shapovalov, he withdrew from the US Open not too long ago due to his continued injury struggles. It's been a very poor year overall for him, though he hopes to return by the end of the year. For now, he's his girlfriend's biggest cheerleader.
