'Pleasure & Honour': Djokovic On Meeting PSG Stars Messi & Neymar

Novak Djokovic is enjoying his time in Paris this year but it's not all business for him as he took some time out of his schedule to go watch a PSG match.

Djokovic played on Sunday beating Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets. It was the best tennis he played since the Australian Open and after the match, Djokovic spoke about having his kids in Paris over the weekend and taking them to watch a Paris Saint-Germain match. It was a chance for Djokovic to meet some fellow sports stars such as Messi and Neymar which was a super fun experience for him.

It's just the perk of being in Paris at the time when the French football league season is coming to an end. The team having a home game is just another thing that worked out in his favour. The chance to meet these players for the first time in person was described as a pleasure by Djokovic.

It was my first time meeting them in person – they are great champions, it was a pleasure and an honour to meet them, especially Messi, a player who left an extraordinary mark in the history of football.

The match wasn't a high-stakes one but a big club like that was expected to finish off the season in front of their fans with a good performance and a win. Djokovic didn't want to insert himself too much but players such as Lionel Messi and Neymar did come over and greet him.

They did win the title already, but the expectations are always huge from stars like them. That’s why I didn’t want to disturb them and to enter their space while they were preparing, but they saw me on their way to the locker room (before the game) and they came to say ’hi’. It was my first time meeting them in person – they are great champions.

He also revealed that Neymar signed a jersey for his daughter Tara. She's not a sports fan but has a friend in school who loves Neymar so meeting him was something that she was really keen on doing.

Neymar signed Tara’s jersey, but it’s an interesting story. She doesn’t follow sports much, but she has a school friend who is half Brazilian-half Serbian – that girl dances all the time to this song about Neymar. That’s why she wanted to meet him badly.
