Novak Djokovic's fans know where to be in April as the Serb signed up for a brand new event on the ATP Tour.
In the past two seasons, the 22-time Grand Slam champion was the main star at the Serbia Open in Belgrade, but that couldn't be held in 2023 as the Novak Tennis Centre, where the tournament takes place, is being renovated in order to obtain an ATP 500 license.
Therefore, the tournament organizers came up with a solution and moved the event to Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the 2023 Srpska Open will take place.
Now, we already know a few players who will take part with the World No. 1 leading the list. For Djokovic, it's important to compete at the events held close to his hometown, as it provides his fans with a unique chance to see him up close.
Of course, with the Serbia Open in Belgrade absent from the calendar, the replacement event is in a relative proximity to the tournament's original venue, which makes it easy for fans to travel to Banja Luka and support their hero.
Djokovic will be joined by the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Gael Monfils, Laslo Djere, Filip Krajinovic, and Dusan Lajovic, as they will compete for a title in Bosnia and Herzegovina from April 16th to 23rd.
Tournament director, who is also Novak Djokovic's brother, Djordje Djokovic spoke about the new event. Djordje was very happy to bring tennis to Bosnia Herzegovina, offering the fans a chance to witness Djokovic play.
"When we started preparations for this tournament, we had big ambitions. Now, several months on, they are even bigger because we will welcome some of the most significant names in the world of tennis and, at the same time, offer fans in the region an opportunity to watch world-class tennis from the front rows."
