Jannik Sinner has spoken up on how little people talk about mental health, stressing that it needs to change.

Sport is often considered an escape and a way of coping with one's mental health when things get tough, but those who get to do it full-time also see themselves needing to prioritize this fundamental aspect.

Many players from the WTA Tour, such as Naomi Osaka, have come out to talk more openly on the subject, saying that mental health for players is a vital part of their lives and that they should be treated as such.

The young Sinner has now joined the movement, creating a project in 2020 called 'What's Kept You Moving,' which has the aim of raising awareness and improving the situation.

Speaking openly about the situation, the Italian explained the importance that mental health plays in everyday life and how few people talk about it considering its importance.

"For me, I feel like not enough people were or are talking about the subject, there are some conversations happening but not enough, and that’s why I wanted to use the platform that I have to try and create some awareness and get more people talking."

The youngster then went onto how the situation is in his generation, as well as what may have worsened many people's mental health.

"As I said before, my generation has been really struggling when it comes to mental health, especially throughout the pandemic, people have felt isolated and alone due to the uncommon circumstances we found ourselves in, so I feel the more people that can talk about it and destigmatise it the better, creating a community where everyone feels safe to talk about how they feel was and is the goal."
