Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz for the second time in a row and denied the Spaniard a second consecutive title at the Croatia Open in Umag.

It seems that Alcaraz and Sinner will be the two players fighting for the ATP World No. 1 spot in the future. The two youngsters have been showing incredible levels of tennis and meet deep in the tournaments over and over again.

Most recently, they competed for a title at the Croatia Open in Umag. Sinner was the better player in that final, even though his opponent won the opening set. Ultimately, the Italian won the match 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1.

After their final meeting in Umag, they both showed a lot of sympathy for each other. While Sinner was happy to lift the trophy, he also recognized that he still has to improve as a player.

"I am obviously very happy. I have [had] a tough year until now, I had some unfortunate moments, but we worked every time to play better, to be a better player, to be a better person. So, I’m very happy to be finally lifting a trophy this year, but I know that I still have a lot of things to improve… It’s all about the process."
"I knew I had to stay there. He made some unforced errors, and I was very happy that I won this game. Then I returned well and raised my level a little bit, and I think I found a solution then."

At the same time, Sinner had some words of praise for his opponent. He's aware of everything that Alcaraz has achieved this year, praising the Spaniard for his improvement.

"Carlos, you improve every week, every tournament you play in. You've already shown amazing things this year, and I'm sure you'll play at a great level at the US Open as well. I wish you the best."
