Andy Murray has confirmed that Emma Raducanu is the type of player he would see himself coaching once he hangs up his racquets.
Who knows when British tennis royalty Andy Murray's career will reach its end. But one thing is for sure and that is the Scot would like to enter the world of coaching when he does eventually decide to call time.
With a new batch of British talent coming through in the shape of Jack Draper on the ATP Tour and Emma Raducanu on the WTA Tour, it is, in fact, the latter that legend Murray would like to see himself coaching in the future.
Speaking recently to ATP Uncovered, the two-time Wimbledon champion spoke about all things tennis, including what he plans to do when his playing days do reach their conclusion.
Mentioning he would like to one day become a coach of the sport he loves, Murray named players that he could see coaching, naming Raducanu among female players, and Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Draper from his rivals on the ATP Tour.
"Female player would be Emma [Raducanu] and male player would be between [Carlos] Alcaraz, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas and Jack Draper."
"They work hard, they seem like they love the sport. Alcaraz and Tsitsipas haven't won a slam yet. They’re obviously still very young and I think they have the potential to do it."
He explained that his ideal type of player to coach is someone who likes to work on their craft, someone who works really hard, and who truly enjoys the game.
One thing is certain, and that is that, according to Murray, the future of the sport is certainly in safe hands when he hands over the baton. With stars such as Raducanu and Draper just for Great Britain, there are plenty of reasons not to dread the new era of tennis.
