Andy Murray started his preparation for the Wimbledon in the best possible way, winning his first match at the ATP Challenger in Surbiton.
When the former world no. 1 saw his draw for the tournament, he was certainly cautious about title thoughts as already in the first round, a challenging opponent stood in his way as Hyeon Chung was making his return to tennis. However, the Brit wanted to make the best use of the wild card that he got for the event, and his performance suggested that.
He never played against the South Korean, who used his protected ranking to enter the event, before but playing on his favourite surface was certainly a big advantage for the three-time Grand Slam champion.
In the first set of the match, Murray started with a break of serve already in the fourth game of the first set. After that, he lost only one more point on his serve, winning the opening set 6-3.
With recent addition to his coaching team, Murray certainly wanted to show that he can serve, but also volley, well and he remained almost intact when serving also in the second part of the match.
In the second set, he lost only one point on his serve, visually giving no chance to his opponent. On the other hand, when returning, Murray managed to add two more breaks, winning the match 6-3, 6-2, and booking a second-round spot at the Challenger event in Surbiton.
As of now, he has no clue who will be his second-round opponent as it will be one of the qualifiers that are yet to be drawn. Murray will have quite a lot of time to prepare for that match as it certainly won't be played the next day, and he'll certainly appreciate that, with every minute helping his preparation for the grass-court Grand Slam.
