Mischa Zverev recently shared his predictions for this year's Roland Garros and picked his younger brother, Alexander Zverev, to win the tournament.
Mischa Zverev, 34, has only played in two tournaments this season without making a lasting impression. He lost in the first round of the San Remo Challenger to Titouan Drouget in early April and suffered an early exit competing at an ITF tournament just a couple of weeks ago.
The experienced lefty is a former World No. 25. He turned pro in 2005 and has earned over $5 million in career prize money. He's had a half-decent career on the ATP Tour, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2017 Australian Open, where he defeated then-World No. 1 Andy Murray for his finest win.
He also reached the second week of the US Open that same season. It was in the subsequent year that he bagged his first and only ATP title in Eastbourne. Mischa did not quite reach his full potential throughout his career because of injuries.
But it looks like Alexander Zverev, who is almost ten years younger, has emerged as the elite player from their family. The 25-year-old has already contested one Grand Slam final in his career and has multiple big titles to his name, such as the ATP Finals and Masters 1000s.
He's also beaten the likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal in his career so far. The younger of the two Germans has had to battle to reach the Roland Garros third round after a five-set win over Sebastian Baez.
Mischa, who is working as an analyst for Eurosport, shared the paths of some of the top players in the tournament and who will win it outright. The older Zverev predicted, the younger Zverev would beat Alcaraz in the quarterfinal.
He then predicted that his brother would defeat Djokovic in the semifinal and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. It's a bold prediction as Zverev has not been counted by many as a favorite to win, and his motivation is questioned a bit after opening up about mental health struggles recently that he experienced this year. It's not impossible, but it's a very interesting prediction.
