Nick Kyrgios has given Novak Djokovic some light-hearted advice about his diet leading up to the 2023 Wimbledon.
Kyrgios produced a memorable run to the 2022 Wimbledon final where he eventually met Djokovic on the hallowed Centre Court grass. In a hard-fought match, Djokovic came back from a set down and bested the Australian with three sets to one victory.
While Kyrgios remains a potential doubt for Wimbledon in 2023 after pulling out of the Mallorca Championships, Djokovic is stepping up his preparation to defend the title and possibly seal a third Grand Slam of the season.
The Serbian shared an Instagram video of his unusual preparation technique by tasting grass on the practice court and Kyrgios was quick to strike up a joking response.
"Remembering the taste and hungry for more."- Djokovic posted on Instagram
"Please don’t eat the grass in front of me again. But if you win again, I’m taking you for some drinks this time,"- Kyrgios replied
The exchange shows that Kyrgios remains in good spirits despite some challenging times in the 2023 season so far. Before his recent omission from Mallorca, the 28-year-old also pulled out of the Australian Open and gave fans some hope of being fit for Wimbledon when he got back on court at the Stuttgart Open earlier in June.
However, the comeback did not go to plan and Kyrgios was defeated in straight sets by Wu Yibing. Throughout the contest, Kyrgios was also overhead complaining about pain in his knee to his coaching team.
In contrast, Djokovic has continued to produce on the highest stage in men's tennis. Since his win at SW19 last season, the 36-year-old has won two of the following three Grand Slams and became the first-ever men's player to reach 23 major titles with a tenth Australian Open in January and a third Roland Garros in May.
