Kyrgios Slams 'Idiotic Question' Towards Djokovic About Arguments With His Coaching Team

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at a journalist who asked Novak Djokovic about why he is so harsh on his team at the 2023 US Open.

Djokovic continued his US Open run on Tuesday with a straight-set victory against home player Taylor Fritz. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has raced to the semi-finals of the US Open in 2023, dropping just two sets across his five matches so far.

Despite his solid performances, Djokovic is a perfectionist and is often seen arguing with his coaching team during matches. The 36-year-old was questioned on the issue during his post-match conference after beating Fritz, and Kyrgios took to his Twitter channel to call out the reporter for being short-sighted.

"Typical idiotic question. The guy is arguably the greatest athlete of all time. Clearly has never been in competition of a decent level in his life."

Djokovic's ongoing arguments with his team have caught the eye of several pundits, players, and spectators in recent years. However, the Serbian player recently dismissed any rumours that he and his team didn't see eye to eye, whilst Djokovic's coach, Goran Ivanisevic, has also countered claims that he and his player are unhappy with each other.

At present, Kyrgios is absent from professional tennis as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist continues to recover from injury. The 2023 season has been tough for the Australian player, who has struggled with regular injuries and has recently tumbled down the official ATP rankings and out of the top 100.

So far this season, Kyrgios has played just one professional match, which he lost against Yibing Wu in the first round of the Stuttgart Open. In addition, the Australian player has regularly said his body is not yet up to the required standard to compete at the highest level so there is no confirmed date on when the 28-year-old will be back on the court.
