Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini will meet in a second-round blockbuster at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
A few years ago, Berrettini reached the Wimbledon final but failed to win it because he played against Novak Djokovic, who proved too strong. His run proved he was a very good grass player, and a few years later, it's still true.
Berrettini had a really solid preparation for Wimbledon and played a really good opening-round match at SW19 to secure the second round. He has a powerful serve, a great forehand, and a slice that slips on the grass courts, making it tough to return.
Of course, Sinner needs no introduction. Last year's semi-finalist is one of the favorites to win the event, and he certainly backed it up with his first-round performance. He looked really comfortable, which is why he's the favorite for this match.
Head-to-head:
The two Italians have only played once so far in an ATP Tour-level match, and Sinner won that match last year in Canada. It was a simple straight-sets win for Sinner. This match should be far more complicated for him because Berrettini has an advantage on the low-bouncing surface.
A lot will depend on how well he serves because, in most rallies, Sinner should have the upper hand. He's the far better hitter and has played much better this year, so the serve will need to be very good for Berrettini.

Prediction:
Overall, it's hard to see how Berretitni can win this match despite his history and previous success at SW19. He'd need a great serving performance to force Sinner into many mistakes, too many for how consistent the World No. 1 has been lately.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in four sets.
