Rafael Nadal was unwilling to divulge on his foot problem during a recent interview at Wimbledon and is more prepared to focus on tennis.
A lot has happened to Nadal's health this year. The Spaniard was clearly in pain during his round-of-16 match against Denis Shapovalov at the Italian Open.
Nadal was cruising in that match until the foot injury flared up, allowing Shapovalov to turn the match around and win in three sets. It was his earliest defeat at the Foro Italico since 2008.
Since then, the chronic foot injury has been a recurring topic in his interviews, with the 22-time Grand Slam champion opening up about it himself a couple of times.
It has been reported that Nadal took medical injections to play at Roland Garros this year as the pain became progressively worse. But he was able to get through the tournament, and he won.
Since then, he has undergone two procedures in Barcelona, forcing him to skip all warm-up events before Wimbledon. Initially, there was uncertainty about his participation in the grass-court major, with some outlets reporting that he withdrew.
But Nadal's foot responded well to the treatment, and he was back on the court very soon, practicing for Wimbledon in no time. He confirmed his participation about a week ago and is even touted as one of the favorites for the title by his uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal.
Nadal, however, did not want to address the injury during a press conference and is more concerned about his level and performance at the All England Club, where he wants to win his third title.
"I’m going to talk about my foot today and not anymore if it’s fine for you guys. I have always been very open but we can’t be talking about my foot every single day because if not, we forget the most important thing which is tennis."
