Nick Kyrgios has a very clear goal for his tennis career, but the way he goes about it changes from time to time.
The Australian is one of the biggest talents on the ATP Tour, and in 2022, he finally proved his qualities. After winning the Australian Open doubles tournament with his good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis, the Australian went on to reach the Wimbledon final in singles.
He lost the final to Novak Djokovic, but getting so close to a major title showed Kyrgios that it's something that he wants to do in his career, even though he knew it before.
He acknowledged that he doesn't see himself playing in his thirties; thus, he won't be playing as long as some other players. His ultimate objective was to enter tennis history, win one Grand Slam, and then retire, which he confirmed once more, this time ahead of the 2022 World Tennis League in Dubai.
"Hopefully, I can just win a Slam and retire."
Kyrgios' overall motivation seemingly fluctuates considerably and goes up and down, but unquestionably, he is driven to win at least one major.
Although he made the remark jokingly, Kyrgios' supporters can count on seeing a fired-up player in Melbourne. His best tennis in 2022 came at the Grand Slams, so something similar should happen in 2023 as well.
He won't be defending any points at the Wimbledon as finalist, as no were awarded in 2022, so there will be no pressure, and already in the past, he proved that playing at home motivates him, so the Australian Open should be a tournament where Kyrgios will be dangerous.
Then, if he wins a major, the only thing left for fans is to hope that he doesn't mean his latest comment seriously, and that he would push to try to win at least one more.
