Alexander Zverev sustained a nasty injury back at the 2022 Roland Garros while playing Rafa Nadal.
Those screams of pain will be long etched in the memory of tennis fans worldwide, but having already had a successful surgery, the German looks to be on the road to recovery.
The injury could not have come at a worse time for the one-time US Open finalist, who is set to reach his career-high second place in the ATP rankings next Monday.
Unable to defend his spot in the rankings, he will have to sit out the foreseeable future on the sidelines, watching others chase his points tally down.
However, he has certainly been kept busy while out with injury. The other day, his brother Mischa visited him and based on his assessment of the visit, Alexander seems to be doing well.
"The ligaments were damaged, but the syndesmosis ligament and the capsule are intact. He is doing very well under the circumstances, he immediately had a smile on his face and we spoke on the phone several times."
"Sascha said: ‘Come over, I’m bored, let’s play Playstation. He gave me a Lego package with 9,000 pieces for the birth of my second son. I think I’ll give it back to him, because now he has enough time to build the Colosseum."
Injury is always the worst time out for professional sportsmen. Forced to watch on from home, they must master the art of patiently waiting their turn to come back instead of rushing it and doing themselves more damage.
That could not be more of the case for Zverev, who will be itching to get back as soon as possible to try and defend those coveted ATP points, but with the severity of the injury, who knows when he will be back.
