'He Can Win Maybe 5 Wimbledons': Alcaraz Backed For Grass Success By Medvedev

Carlos Alcaraz recently won his maiden grass trophy and it's certainly not going to be the last; Daniil Medvedev predicts him to win 5 Wimbledons in the future.

Alcaraz has been the biggest talent to emerge on the ATP Tour in years as the Spaniard is already up to 11 trophies at age 20 along with one Grand Slam trophy. His 11th one was recently at the Cinch Championships where he bested Alex de Minaur in the final to lift his maiden one on grass.

Despite admitting to struggle on the surface more so than others, Alcaraz didn't need much time to get his first trophy on grass and it shifted his perspective in terms of goals and expectations at this year's Wimbledon. While winning it this year would be a major undertaking, Daniil Medvedev can certainly see him win it in the future.

In my opinion, the way Carlos plays on every surface, he can win maybe five Wimbledons, but you never know. It's a tough surface to play on. When we played [in 2021], he was not the same player, so I managed to get the best of this match.

Last year I think he improved [on grass] already, played this four-setter against [Jannik] Sinner [in the fourth round]. I remember it was a great match.

Alcaraz doing well on grass isn't so surprising because he's that talented but for Medvedev, it's the fit that surprises him. Quite often you see a player and think that they're a great fit or bad fit on grass and while on paper that might be true, the reality is very different.

Someone [like Alcaraz], where you say in your mind that while his game is not really suited for grass — maybe he doesn't go to the net that often and stuff like this — and then he plays so well on grass, and he says it himself that it is his best and favourite surface. That's where it's surprising.

Medvedev himself favoured grass earlier in his career more than other surfaces but in the professionals, he's most comfortable on hard courts and the results back it up. His only Grand Slam trophy came on hard and he never played a Grand Slam final that wasn't on hard courts either.
