After fighting a great battle against John Millman, Dominic Thiem left the 2022 Serbia Open already after the first round.

Dominic Thiem is without a doubt one of the best clay-court players currently on the ATP Tour. The Austrian played the Roland Garros final twice and won numerous titles on the surface.

However, after recovering from an injury, he was not yet showing his best tennis at the 2022 Serbia Open where he lost to John Millman in the first round.

However, there were some really bright moments in the match which finished in three sets when Thiem ended it with a double fault. After the match, he wrote a message to his fans on Instagram which stated:

"Today was a day that didn't go as planned, but it was still positive!I didn’t start the match today with high expectations, but as always I gave everything I could. When I was on the court, I was very happy, to be honest. It was a challenge and it was a real match."

Up next, Thiem will try to forget the loss and improve at his next tournament, which is an ATP 250 event in Portugal. The Austrian received the 2022 Estoril Open wild card, and he will try to use it in order to regain his top form.

"And that’s what I’ve been aiming for over the past few months. We must learn from our failures and continue to give everything to achieve our personal goals. That’s exactly what I’m going to do and continue to pursue!"

"At the moment, I am glad of my situation. I’m in good health, I can practice and participate on tour. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me today and in the past few days! It means a lot to me!"
