Dominic Thiem admits he has set himself new goals for 2023 after returning to the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings.

The Austrian has had a torrid 14 months, a wrist injury suffered at the Mallorca Championships in June 2021 resulting in an extended time on the sidelines, and has had to watch on as a new generation of players has recently made big moves in the game.

But the signs have been looking good for the former World No.3, with some impressive runs to the semi-finals In Gijon and Antwerp, taking out the likes of Hubert Hurkacz and Tommy Paul along the way.

Thiem's famed one-handed back hand has slowly been finding its mark again and many believe he will be one of the players to watch next year.

His recent form has found him back in the ATP Top 100, no mean feat given he was as low as No. 346 at the end of June this year.

And in a recent Instagram post, Thiem revealed that getting inside the top 100 was a goal he had set himself at the start of the year.

He wrote: "What a great feeling! I have reached my goal for 2022. Top 100 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings. I am looking forward to the new season. I have already set new goals!"

However, the 2020 US Open champion will know he has his work cut out to get back to the lofty heights he achieved previously.

During his absence, players like Carlos Alcaraz and now Holger Rune and Felix Auger-Aliassime have started to realise their potential, proving themselves capable of mixing it with the tour's top talents.

But Thiem knows that on his game, he is one of the best players in the world and will use the close season to make sure he is ready for January's Australian swing followed by the Australian Open.
