Noted tennis coach Rick Macci is sure that Novak Djokovic's domination is not over, even with the rise of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz's continued excellence.
There have been some interesting shifts in recent months on the ATP Tour. While Djokovic finished the year on a high note with an ATP Finals win, Sinner also finished it on a high note.
He went even higher at the start of this year, winning the Australian Open. As for Alcaraz, he reminded people at the Indian Wells Open that he still has it.
Djokovic's exit from the Monte-Carlo Masters made some people wonder whether he truly is on a decline, but noted coach Macci doesn't think so. Speaking with Sportskeeda, the American coach said that Djokovic will win more Grand Slams in the future despite how he looked in recent weeks.
"No, we are not seeing an end to his [Novak Djokovic] domination. He might not be as dominant because last year he won three out of the four Grand Slams and he lost in five sets to [Carlos] Alcaraz at Wimbledon after winning the first set 6-1."— Macci on Djokovic<br>
Still, Maci wouldn't say that Djokovic is likely to repeat the kind of year he had in 2023. He won three Grand Slams last year, and he's already lost at one this year. Will he win the other 3? It's unlikely, so some sort of regression is likely happening, according to Macci.
"Is he gonna do what he did in 2023? I don't think so. Is he gonna be as dominant? No. Can he still be one of the best players in the world? Yes. Will he still win Grand Slams? Absolutely."
"People don't realize what he is doing at age 36 is unprecedented. He is still dominating to some degree. At that age, we have never seen anything like this. That's why he is the GOAT."
