Novak Djokovic is reportedly set to join Serbian Davis Cup team in an attempt to get them back to the top, shortly after the 2024 US Open.

It's not a secret that Djokovic would love to win one more Davis Cup title with his country. He did it once in 2010, as part of the team with Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki, and Nenad Zimonjic, and he would want to do it again.

Last year, however, Serbia lost in the semi-finals of the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, and it came after Djokovic had three match points against Jannik Sinner. Therefore, he showed his greatness and took responsibility for the loss.

This year, the 24-time major winner couldn't help his country in the Davis Cup Qualifiers, but his countrymen were still huge favorites to take down Slovakia on home soil and secure the spot in the 2024 Davis Cup Finals.

Shockingly, Serbia lost to Slovakia in Kraljevo Sports Hall, without winning a single match, and that was a massive setback for the country, which means Djokovic won't have a chance to fight for the Davis Cup trophy this year.

However, if he wants to do it again in the coming years, he will need to help Serbia in their upcoming World Group I tie, and the reports suggest that he will do so.

Serbia were given a brutal draw, as they are set to take on Stefanos Tsitsipas' Greece in a tie that will take place at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade from Septeber 14th to 15th, only one week after the conclusion of the US Open, where the 37-year-old is the defending champion.

Serbia chose hard courts as the surface for the tie, even though that most of their players are clay-court specialists. The reason for this is simple, and it's the fact that Greece's best player Tsitsipas plays his best tennis on clay, so they likely want to eliminate his strenghts.

But biggest elimination of Greece's strengths should be Djokovic's presence. Serbian journalist, Sasa Ozmo, who is often in contact with Djokovic as well as Serbian Davis Cup team, reported that according to the Serbian Tennis Federation, the seven-time Wimbledon champion should take part in the tie against Greece.

For Djokovic, it's likely the last chance to get one last chance to win a Davis Cup with Serbia. If the country would lose against Greece, they wouldn't play in the Davis Cup Qualifiers next year, postponing their possible participation until years when Djokovic would be turning already 40.
