Novak Djokovic was chasing history at the last ATP event of the season and eventually, he succeeded in completing the tournament almost flawlessly.

Recently retired Roger Federer won the ATP Finals six times and with five triumphs before the 2022 ATP Finals, Novak Djokovic was looking to match his record in Turin. Moreover, the prize money on offer created an opportunity for a player that will go unbeaten at the tournament to set a new world record.

Until final, the Serbian didn't find an opponent that would beat him as Casper Ruud wanted to become the first one. However, already on his first serve game, the Norwegian faced two break points. Despite avoiding a break on that occasion, he was under pressure once again in the eight game of the first set.

Ruud managed to avoid getting broken also for the third time but he wasn't good enough in the twelfth game as Djokovic got the first break of the match to win the first set 7-5 and get an important advantage.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion was sprinting towards a dominant victory also in the second set despite worrying scenes that pictured him massively shaking during a changeover.

He used his only break point in the second set to get a 3-1 lead and never lost it to win comfortably 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 34 minutes and match Roger Federer's 6 titles at the ATP Finals.

Moreover, the Serbian earned $4,740,300 thanks to winning the 2022 ATP Finals undefeated and therefore set a new world record in prize money won at single event. Previous record was held by Ashleigh Barty who won $4,4 million at the 2019 WTA Finals.
