Rafael Nadal is considered a Wimbledon favorite by one of his coaches, Francisco Roig, despite the Spaniard's 12-year drought at the All England Club.
The tournament is set to begin in just a couple of days, and despite the absence of World No.1 Daniil Medvedev due to a ban imposed on Russian players and World No. 2 Alexandr Zverev due to an ankle injury, not many people can see a winner besides Novak Djokovic.
The Serb is the defending champion and has not lost a match at SW19 since 2017. Last year, he defeated Matteo Berrettini to win his sixth title and moved closer to Roger Federer's record of eight titles.
Djokovic is the strong favorite despite playing fewer events than most top players because of his unvaccinated status against the coronavirus. Berrettini is a close second in many people's eyes.
Nadal's coach, Francisco Roig, believes those two men are the most likely to win the event, and the bookies seem to agree. This is an indisputable fact, as Djokovic has won the last three editions of Wimbledon, and Berrettini is probably better than any other player on grass right now, having won two warm-up tournaments.
However, Roig also named Nadal the third favorite, which aligns with the views of many other tennis pundits. The 22-time Grand Slam champion is undefeated at the majors this year, winning the first two at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
The first three favourites for the title are Djokovic, Berrettini and Rafa, in that order. But if Rafa gets through the 1st week, he will overtake Berrettini.— Roig on Wimbledon favourites<br>
There is a lot of excitement about Nadal's return to Wimbledon for the first time in three years, but the 36-year-old has not played much on the grass in the past, and it's a big question just how well he will do.
