John Millman likes to share his thought on recent tennis events on social media and he shared his Roland Garros favourites recently.
Millman knows a thing or two about tennis having played the sport on the ATP Tour for many years and while his level is not as strong as it used to be, the Australian still plays the sport and follows what's going on quite closely. He shared his thoughts on the Djokovic situation as his tennis has been rather lacklustre with an elbow sleeve raising concerns among fans.
I still don’t think we see Novak’s best tennis on the dirt until around Rome time. As he’s said, he takes time to get used to this surface and feel like in the past we tend to see him hit his strides when he rolls into the Italian capital.
What Millman referenced above is nothing unusual for Djokovic, it's actually quite in line with how his previous clay season went. He largely struggled before finding a solid level in Rome which continued until Roland Garros. The year he won Roland Garros was the year when he lost in Rome. Last year he won Rome comfortably but lost to Nadal at Roland Garros.
Either way it takes him a while to get going and Millman thinks we'll see him at his best around Rome. One thing that could be a problem is the elbow issue, which he hasn't dealt with in the past. It's certainly something to factor in but even so, Millman sees him as the biggest favourite for Roland Garros.
For me I'd have -Novak -Alcaraz -Nadal (if Nadal isn’t playing by Rome though I’d have Sinner in there).
Djokovic recently pulled out of the Madrid Open which added to concern that he might be dealing with an injury that needs more time to heal. He wouldn't confirm or speak about it but something is going on.
