Daniil Medvedev vs Grigor Dimitrov: 2024 Indian Wells Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov have played at the Indian Wells Open in the past, and they will meet once again in 2024.

The Russian stood in the Indian Wells final last year, which was his best-ever result at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells. He traditionally doesn't like to play in Indian Wells because the courts play rather slow, which is not to his liking.

Oddly enough, despite that, Medvedev has done really well at this event in the past. He's playing well this year, and he beat Sebastian Korda in the previous round.

Dimitrov has been playing some of his best tennis ever in the past year. It's quite amazing the type of level the Bulgarian was able to consistently put forward in recent months.

Head-to-head:

They actually played once before at the Indian Wells Open, and Dimitrov won that match. They also played more than once last year, with Medvedev winning two of the three matches they played.

The most recent match, however, was won by Dimitrov, who has been playing very consistent tennis for a while now. The overall H2H score is 6-3 for Medvedev, who has been pretty good this year.

Still, he's also been quite beatable, so there are a couple of things to note. It's likely going to be a close match because Dimitrov is just too solid.

Daniil Medvedev Grigor Dimitrov
6 H2H 3
4 Rank 13
28 Age 32
11-2 2024 W/L 15-3
344-138 Career W/L 428-276

Prediction:

If the match is played during the day, it should favour Dimitrov more because it will give him more chances to hit through Medvedev. The conditions are a bit quicker during the day, which should suit Dimitrov in what he'll try to do.

A lot will depend on Medvedev's level, too. His best is still out of reach for Dimitrov.

Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov to win in three sets.
