Daniil Medvedev vs Cameron Norrie: 2024 Miami Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Daniil Medvedev won the Miami Open last year, and he'll want to do it again in 2024, as he prepares for the third-round match against Cameron Norrie.

The Russian is one of the best hardcourt players in the world, and he prefers quicker courts. Last year's Miami Open was sped up quite a bit compared to previous years, and it immediately worked out in Medvedev's favor, as he was able to go all the way and win the trophy.

He made a pretty good start this year, beating Marton Fucsovics 6-4, 6-2, but now faces a much tougher challenge in Norrie. The Brit is not the best player in the world, but he can be quite annoying to play against for his opponents.

He has a lefty forehand that can be tricky to overcome, and his backhand is pretty stable for the most part. The problem for him will be hitting through Medvedev, which requires weapons he doesn't really have.

Head-to-head:

Norrie and Medvedev have played twice so far, and the former world no. 1 won easily both times. This is a matchup problem for Norrie because he needs to find a way to hit through the Russian if he hopes to win.

Norrie doesn't have the strongest weapons, but on these faster courts, he should have more of a chance. Medvedev will do his thing, and I expect him to win this match. I don't think he will have too many problems, especially if he approaches the matchup seriously.

Prediction:

The court will give him a lot of free points behind his serve, and he should be able to grind down Norrie. The Brit will likely be solid for the most part, but then he can make some bad errors, which may cost him the match.

Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in two sets.
