Daniil Medvedev returns to action at the 2023 Miami Open this week after falling short of winning at Indian Wells with a final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz.

Medvedev will want to get back to winning ways in 2023 as the Russian player had won the Rotterdam Open, Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championship before his loss to Alcaraz. The 27-year-old was outplayed in the Indian Wells final against Alcaraz and fell to defeat in straight sets.

In an attempt to recover quickly, Medvedev will set his sights on improving at the 2023 Miami Open, where he has never progressed further than the quarter-finals - a stage he reached in 2022 and 2021.

Seeded fourth in this season's Miami Open, Medvedev received a bye for the first round. He will face either of the Spanish players Roberto Carballés Baena or Bernabé Zapata Miralles in the second round.

A possible third-round clash could then come against 28th seed Yoshihito Nishioka, who Medvedev has beaten twice in the two previous head-to-head matches.

Matteo Berrettini or Alex de Minaur are likely to await in the fourth round before a possible quarter-final match against 11th seed Cameron Norrie. Medvedev has also won both previous encounters against Norrie and the Brit has never taken a set off the Russian player.

Felix Auger-Aliassime or second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas could then take on Medvedev in the semi-finals. Tsipitas in particular has proven to be a tough opponent, beating Medvedev in the last two meetings.

If Medvedev can navigate a tricky semi-final clash, then he could set up a second consecutive ATP final against Alcaraz, while the likes of third seed Casper Ruud and fellow Russian Andrey Rublev will also be competing on the other side of the draw for a potential final spot.
