Both Carlos Alcaraz and Felix Auger-Aliassime enjoyed the type of tennis year that they will look back on in years to come and say - that was the breakthrough season.

Alcaraz rose from a January rank of World No.32 to become the youngest ever World No.1 by September, winning the US Open to claim the top spot alongside two Masters 1000s titles in Miami and Madrid.

For Felix, he achieved a career-high No. 6 and earned a personal-best 56 wins during the 2022 season, including a career-long 16-match win streak that won him 3 titles in as many weeks at Florence, Antwerp and Basel.

He also won the clinching match during the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, helping Canada win their first ever Davis Cup.

The successes of the 19-year-old Spaniard and his Canadian 22-year-old counterpart this year mean they become the first players born post-2000 to reach the $10 million career-earnings mark.

Remarkably, Alcaraz has earned the vast bulk of his career earning current total of $11,829,642 this season, ending the year with around $10.1M to end the season as the ATP's highest earner, just pipping rival Novak Djokovic to the number one spot.

Felix's second half of the year helped him earn around $5M to take him up to $10,203,595 in the career earnings of active players list and a No.81 spot.

It all sets things up for what is sure to be a magical 2023 on the ATP tour, with storylines and sub-plots yet to be written and played out, with it likely Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime to be heavily involved in the majority of outcomes.

It will be interesting to see where they are on the list come the end of next year.
