Andy Murray Confirms Intentions To Play On Clay By Signing Up For Another Event

Andy Murray might have dropped a retirement hint, but he is planning to play on clay as he signed up for the upcoming Munich Open in April.

The British player hasn't had a very good season so far, winning only three of the ten matches he played this year. Up until recently, Murray was winless, but he was able to win his first match during the Middle Eastern stretch.

The British player hinted at retirement later this year during his winless struggles, and apparently, he's quite serious about it. A summer retirement is in the cards, though we don't really know when that will happen, even though Wimbledon is the most likely target for the two-time champion.

However, we know that Murray plans to play on clay as he signed up for the Munich Open, which is an ATP 250 tournament in Germany held after the Monte-Carlo Masters, for which he also signed up. Murray is familiar with the event in Germany, having played and won in the city before.

Exactly nine years ago, in 2015, Murray triumphed at the Munich Open, and he's going to attempt to recreate it in 2024. Clay hasn't been a very good surface for him in recent years, as his movement isn't as strong as it once was.

Murray generally had trouble on a surface where movement is everything. He only played more than a handful of matches on it last year. He actually did well because he won an ATP Challenger event on the red clay but missed Roland Garros to better prepare for the grass season.

We'll see whether he plays the event this year because there is a good chance it will be his final French Open.

Only time will tell, but this participation certainly hints at pursuing Roland Garros this year or possibly even the Olympic Games, which are held on the same courts as the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.
