Andy Murray added another ATP Challenger trophy to his tally this year, ensuring a return to the Top 40 for the first time in 5 years.
Andy Murray won the 2023 Nottingham Open on Sunday by beating Arthur Cazaux in the final, improving to 10-0 on the grass this season. For the first time in years, Murray has won 10 matches in a row, and he's just one or two more wins away from securing a seeded spot in the Wimbledon draw.
That was the big goal leading up to this year's event, and he's very close to getting it done. He will need to defeat Alex de Minaur at the Queen's Club to have a chance at a spot in the Top 32 spots of the Wimbledon draw.
Two wins at the Cinch Championships would ensure him a spot in the Top 32, which would be a major achievement for Murray.
In other news, the win also allowed him to return to the Top 40 for the first time in 5 years. The last time Murray was ranked inside the Top 40 before the upcoming Monday was at the beginning of May 2018. He was number 39 on May 6th, 2018, which is over five years ago.
The British player was always known as a great fighter, and this fight was basically the one of his career. Being told that he would never play again left Murray resolved to prove everyone wrong.
With a lot of work, Murray was able to do that, and the most important thing is still unsaid. He's doing all of this with a metal hip, which is incredible.
There are people who can barely walk with a metal hip, but he's playing tennis and on a very high level. His push allowed players
like Juan Martin Del Potro to dream about their own swan song, and that's wholesome.
