Alcaraz To Undergo Injury Test Before Making Barcelona Open Decision

Carlos Alcaraz's participation at the 2024 Barcelona Open is uncertain, with the Spaniard set to undergo tests on his injury.

The tennis world was widely disappointed when Alcaraz withdrew from the Monte-Carlo Masters on Tuesday. This was due to a right forearm injury, with the pain eventually becoming too much for him to manage.

Alcaraz is already one of the leading stars in tennis despite being just 20 years old. Mats Wilander believes that Alcaraz could become the second most important tennis player of all time in the future.

The Monte-Carlo Masters is an event in which the Wimbledon champion has had consistently bad luck. In fact, it is the only ATP Masters 1000 tournament in which he has never won a match. His only appearance was in 2022, and he was ruled out with injury in 2023 and 2024.

An update has been provided about Alcaraz after his Monte-Carlo withdrawal, as reported by Marca. His involvement in Barcelona next week is far from certain but the news is still potentially positive for his fans.

Alcaraz took Tuesday off and is going to do the same on Wednesday to give his forearm a chance to rest. This is needed after the pain and discomfort the Spaniard immediately felt during his attempted practice sessions in Monte-Carlo.

The two-time Grand Slam champion will then return to training on Thursday and Friday. Alcaraz plans to use these days as tests to see what condition his right forearm is in, before deciding whether he is capable of competing at the Barcelona Open.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Alcaraz has had this issue. He also suffered with pain in his forearm towards the end of the Chinese swing last season, leading to his withdrawal from the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

Nonetheless, his team is cautiously optimistic that Alcaraz will be able to play in Barcelona, where he is the defending champion. Tennis fans around the world hope that this will be the case.
