Alcaraz Moves Past Auger-Aliassime To Set Up Tsitsipas Clash At Roland Garros

Carlos Alcaraz had no issues beating Felix Auger-Aliassime at the 2024 Roland Garros in straight sets setting up a quarter-final showdown with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Auger-Aliassime has given Alcaraz some problems in the past, but today was not one of those days. This is the second time they have played this year, and the second time the Spaniard won fairly easily.

It's not a huge surprise because the 21-year-old is seemingly peaking slowly. He admitted recently that he feels comfortable using maximum power on his forehand again, and that's a big deal for him.

He showed it a few times in this match, obliterating a few forehands in crucial moments to push himself past the Canadian. There was also pretty deliberate targeting of the backhand, especially early, which proved quite fruitful.

Auger-Aliassime actually opened with an early break, taking a 1-0 lead, but he lost it immediately. As Alcaraz kept applying the pressure, the Canadian faltered slowly, losing the first set 3-6.

The second set offered nothing different, as Auger-Aliassime simply wasn't sharp enough. He also took a medical timeout for a back issue that seemingly impacted his movement, which is not ideal, especially on clay.

The medical timeout didn't really change much because he didn't move that much better but powered through, not wanting to give up. He also showed signs of frustration as things simply didn't work.

The third was just too good in crucial moments, winning him the second set 6-3. The final set would open with an early break by Alcaraz once more, as Auger-Aliassime looked completely defeated.

The final score was 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 for the Spaniard, who will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the next round. The Greek has never beaten Alcaraz before.
