Jo-Wilfried Tsonga named Carlos Alcaraz as the biggest favourite for the 2023 Roland Garros, in case the 14-time champion Rafael Nadal will be absent.

The 2023 Roland Garros is quickly approaching and it's already appropriate to talk about favourites ahead of the only clay-court Grand Slam tournament. In 2023, the event also known as the French Open, will run from May 28th until June 11th and it may be marked as the deciding major in a famous 'Grand Slam Race' between Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.

But there is a new name on the horizon and it's Carlos Alcaraz. The talented Spaniard already won a major and even according to renowned coach Rick Macci, he's the most complete player on the ATP Tour.

Therefore, it's not a surprise that also former world no. 5 and two-time Roland Garros semifinalist, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sees the teenager as one of the favourites as he revealed in an interview with WeLoveTennis.

“I admit that Alcaraz is still playing very, very well. And then we have to see if Rafa will be there or not. Because for me, the favorite is Alcaraz if Nadal is not present."

However, the former French player admitted that once the more experienced Spaniard steps his foot on the clay courts of the Roland Garros, he will be the favourite to win the second major of the season. He also mentioned Novak Djokovic, who he named as potentially the best player of all time.

"If Rafa is there, I still want to say that he will be the favorite. And there is Djokovic of course. He is still potentially the best player of all time."
