John Millman recently backed compatriot
Nick Kyrgios for Wimbledon success, saying that there is no reason why he couldn't win a title at SW19.
Kyrgios is currently away from the tennis courts
due to an ongoing recovery from injury. The Australian hasn't competed on the ATP Tour this year, but his first match of the season can come very soon with the Wimbledon Championships nearing.
Kyrgios could be one of the dark horses at Wimbledon, and his compatriot, John Millman, who talked to
News.com.au, actually thinks that Kyrgios could win a title at the grass-court major.
"There’s no doubt that the game has missed Kyrgios since his knee injury sustained in October last year. Nick proved last year when making the final of Wimbledon that he can win Grand Slams. I see no reason why he can’t win Wimbledon, Australian Open or the US Open in the next eight months."
Millman also talked about Kyrgios' personality. Kyrgios is the type of player that people either love or hate, and Millman explained why so many enjoy watching the Australian.
"Whether you love or hate the guy for his rock star, 'don’t give a stuff' persona, the one thing we can all agree on is he has been blessed with a skill on the tennis court that has few rivals. His impossible shot-making complimented with an occasional unpredictable outburst makes him a must-see attraction."
"He’s yin and yang wrapped into one and crowds around the world just can’t get enough of it. There’s yet to be a tournament I’ve played where the fans aren’t hanging by the rafters when he’s on court."
Millman knows how it feels to stand on the opposite side of the court against Kyrgios, but also to play on a court located near the one where Kyrgios plays.
"I’ve often, frustratingly so, been playing on a neighbouring court to Nick when he’s in full flight. At times I’d be wishing that some of that atmosphere that’s been created on his court would filter its way to mine."
