Alcaraz Hopes Sinner 'Pressures Him' To Recreate Big Three Rivalry

by Zachary Wimer

Carlos Alcaraz grew up watching the Big Three and their rivalries, so he hopes to recreate something like that with Jannik Sinner.

The young Spaniard is not an idealist, but there are some things he'd like to experience in his career. Having a signature rivalry would be one of them, as he grew up watching a few authentic rivalries, quite possibly the greatest we ever saw.

He wants to experience that because it would motivate him to improve even further, and having a person to push him forward is something he wants. For Alcaraz, that's been Sinner so far. They played a few matches, some big ones, and both scored wins at different times.

It's been a really interesting matchup so far because they always seem to one-up each other. They're both still trying to maximize their potential, so the results are really fluid. Their last match was won by Alcaraz, for example, but the one before by Sinner.

"We all know about the rivalry Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have had. Let’s hope I can have that amazing rivalry with Jannik. I hope he pressures me to give 100 per cent and we can both improve."

Alcaraz on the rivalry with Sinner

It's highly likely to come true because they look like the best players from their generation, at least right now. Sinner's coach talked about the two in the past, expecting the rivalry to flourish for many years.

Novak Djokovic himself admitted that Alcaraz and Sinner will carry the sport forward, so it seems like everybody is expecting this rivalry to become the next one in tennis if it already isn't.

Time will ultimately tell what happens with them as players and the rivalry overall, as we've seen many great young players who later failed to deliver on their potential, and also many careers ended by injuries.
