'Alcaraz Got Cramped Against Djokovic At 20, I Won US Open Against Federer': Del Potro

Juan Martin Del Potro reflected on his career comparing his US Open win over Roger Federer with the defeat of Carlos Alcaraz at the hands of Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros recently.

Juan Martin Del Potro was a fantastic player at his peak but the Argentine player was troubled with many physical issues. The knee injury proved too much in the end forcing him to retire from the sport. It was a devastating reality for Del Potro whose knees continue to be a problem even in his day-to-day life.

He's been proposed a chance to formally retire at this year's US Open which would be a dream for the one-time champion. He's been working hard towards that goal hoping to get the dream farewell he so deeply craves. In a recent interview, Del Potro reflected on his feelings about the way things unfolded.

I live with two sensations. I have anger, I feel annoyed, and I wonder why. And then it happens the other way around and I think: 'why not me?'. I am ordinary: there are many athletes who suffer.

In the same interview, Del Potro reflected on the recent match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard crumbled in the biggest moment allowing it to become too much which resulted in full-body cramps. That's something unfamiliar to Del Potro as most of his struggles were physical. He admitted to never feeling afraid of playing the best.

(Carlos) Alcaraz got cramped after playing two sets with Djokovic and he is 20 years old; At the age of 20, I won the US Open final against Federer. I never had a problem beating the best: my problem was healing my wrist. If it hurts to hit the backhand with top, okay, I play with slice, I don't use my hand. My toughest opponent was my body. I wasn't afraid to play against the best
