Carlos Alcaraz won the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and is up to four Grand Slams so far in his career, but he doesn't feel like the champion that Novak Djokovic is.
The Spaniard beat Djokovic in three sets with a stunning display at SW19, but after the match, he was very humble once again, paying a great tribute to his final opponent and all of his achievements.
After all, with this win, Alcaraz is up to four Grand Slams, but he's nowhere near the Serbian's 24. There is plenty of time left in his tennis career, and he's certainly on a great trajectory, but he's aware that to reach those heights, he needs to win a lot more.
However, winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, also called the Channel Slam, is very challenging. Only a few players did it: Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.
To join that list of players at only 21 is special and bodes well for his future, but Alcaraz has much more to prove in order to enter the ranks of those great champions, at least according to his own words.
"I think just fighting and believing. I don’t know. It’s huge for me to be part of those players who have achieved it in the same year. Really glad to be in the same table as Novak. Huge champions did it."
"I don’t consider myself a champion yet like them. I’ll try to keep building my path and journey. It’s a huge moment for me."
The Spaniard's future is certainly bright, and winning the Channel Slam is likely something he'll do a few more times in his career. Nadal did it twice, and Borg three times, that's the standard they set.
Alcaraz has long journey ahead of him, buts so far, he's been far ahead of schedule.
