Carlos Alcaraz won both the Cinch Championships and Wimbledon last year, but he believes the latter wouldn't have happened if he didn't win at Queen's.
When the Spanish youngster arrived at Queen's last year, he had little experience on grass and was pretty uninspired about his level on the surface. With a few wins at Queen's, Alcaraz started to enjoy playing on grass and became more confident in the process.
When he downed Alex de Minaur in the final, Alcaraz became even more confident and started to believe that he could actually succeed at Wimbledon. He went all the way to the final, where he bested Novak Djokovic to win the trophy, his second at a major.
It's also something he thinks wouldn't have happened if he didn't win at Queen's Club which he told the LTA recently.
"It was great winning Queen's, my first tournament on grass. It was a really special one. I would say if I didn't win Queen's, I would not have been able to win Wimbledon. So it was a great run over there and a special win for me."
Alcaraz remains supremely confident in his grass ability one year after those successes. He thinks that his game works well on grass, and it's hard to argue against that because he won Wimbledon last year, which is the ultimate proof that it works.
"I love playing on grass. I think my game is very well-suited for grass. I want to play aggressive all the time. I want to find the net in every point. Drop shots, slices. So I think that's my style and that's the way that I enjoy the game."
He's going to play in Queen's again this year to defend his trophy on a quick turnaround from Roland Garros, where he won his third career major.
