The 2024 Houston Open remains the only clay court tournament on the ATP Tour to be held on American soil.
The initial entry list for this ATP 250 tournament was released. It will take place in the first week of April, with main draw action beginning on April 1st and ending on April 7th with the singles final.
The relatively small field of 28 players features a significant number of highly talented pros. Unsurprisingly, Americans account for most of the main draw slots, with defending champion Frances Tiafoe chief among them.
Last year, the tournament was marred by inclement weather, which led the event planners to follow a crash program and complete the tournament from the second-round stage to the final within two days.
They'll be hoping the weather doesn't wreck this year's schedule, especially with five of the world's Top 30 players signing up to play in Houston.
The top seed is Ben Shelton, who is making his debut in Houston. He is joined by compatriots Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe in filling up the high-seed berths. Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry are behind them.
Jordan Thompson, who became an ATP champion for the first time in Los Cabos, is also part of the fold, as are Christopher Eubanks and Marcos Giron, who fill the top eight seeds spots.
Tennis fans will not sleep over the likes of Luciano Darderi and Yannick Hanfmann, who love the surface. Italy's Darderi won the ATP 250 in Cordoba during the Golden Swing.
Denis Shapovalov has been awarded a wild card as he steps up his busy schedule following injury. While Kei Nishikori is using a protected ranking to play after his own struggles with his body in recent years.
At least two more wild cards will be confirmed in the days leading to the tournament, while four more names will be determined following the conclusion of the qualifying draw. Be sure to check the other players featured in the entry list below.
