The 2024 China Open in Beijing will be held from September 26th to October 2nd, marking its 23rd edition on the ATP Tour.

The China Open was initially introduced on the calendar as an ATP 250 back in 1993. American Michael Chang was crowned the inaugural winner. In fact, he completed a three-peat before his streak was snapped on his fourth attempt.

In subsequent years, Novak Djokovic has eclipsed Chang's feat at this tournament, winning in Beijing a record six times. The decorated Serbian was the only player to lift the title there for four straight years (2012-2015) before Andy Murray succeeded him in his career-best 2016 season.

The four-year suspension of tennis tournaments in China was lifted last year when the China Open was reintroduced to the calendar. Jannik Sinner became the newest champion after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

He is the only Italian man to win in Beijing and will return to defend his crown. The entry for this year's tournament has been revealed and is stacked with world-class talent.

Sinner is expected to be the top seed and will be joined by the closest challengers in the top five of the rankings, such as Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Daniil Medvedev.

The 2024 China Open will be held in the same week as the Japan Open in Tokyo and will serve as warm-up tournaments for the eighth Masters 1000 in Shanghai, which kicks off in early October and will run for a fortnight.

Players who will be expected to challenge and have historically had success in Asia in the past include Andrey Rublev, Grigor Dimitrov, and Karen Khachanov.

Lorenzo Musetti will hope to cap off his breakthrough season by winning an ATP title for the first time in two years. The National Tennis Centre's hard courts will favor players who take the initiative from the baseline.

So, big servers like Nicolas Jarry, Alexander Bublik, Jan-Lennard Struff, and Lorenzo Sonego will be rewarded for their risk-tolerant approach, which leaves little margin for error. Of the quartet, three have bagged at least one title in 2024.

China's presence in the draw will be represented by Zhizhen Zhang, the country's most prominent male player ranked inside the Top 50. Breakout youngsters like Jiri Lehecka and Flavio Cobolli will join the fold.

The veteran Gael Monfils knows he won't be staying on the Tour for long and will make just his third appearance in Beijing. He was eliminated in the first round in each of his previous two trips.

Another Frenchman who has signed up for this ATP 500 event is Adrian Mannarino, who snapped a 10-match losing streak at this year's US Open. Like Monfils, he will play for the third time in Beijing.

Pablo Carreno Busta recently returned to action after a lengthy injury absence. He will use a protected ranking to enter the main draw. The two other Spaniards are Pedro Martinez and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Four players will be granted main draw wild cards, and the 16-player qualifying tournament will determine the eight successful qualifiers. Be sure to check the initial entry list below.
