The 2024 Almaty Open will be held from October 14th to 20th, and the prize money distribution has been revealed for the event in Kazakhstan.
Two European indoor tournaments are being held during the same week in Antwerp and Stockholm. The Almaty Open is also played indoors and is the final event of the 2024 Asian swing.
The first edition of Kazakhstan's only ATP tournament was played in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, brought in to fill the calendar while other events in Asia were canceled due to lockdown restrictions.
However, its success meant it was retained on the calendar. The first four iterations were played in Astana, but this year's tournament was moved to Almaty to expand the event further.
Novak Djokovic, who said he is done with events outside of Grand Slams and representing Serbia, is the most high-profile winner of the tournament, managing this in 2022 when it had ATP 500 status. The 2024 Almaty Open has ATP 250 status, but it still promises to be a great event.
Frances Tiafoe, who lamented losing a lead at the recent Laver Cup, Sebastian Korda, and Karen Khachanov are among the players on the entry list for the 2024 Almaty Open. The draw will be open, and many players can lift the champion's trophy.
$1,036,700 will be distributed in prize money at this year's Almaty Open, with the winner earning the biggest part of it. But players who lose in the earlier rounds will still be rewarded for their efforts in Kazakhstan.
The champion at the 2024 Almaty Open will receive $157,695 for that impressive achievement. That is a very impressive amount for an ATP 250 tournament, with most others not offering that kind of sum. 250 points will also be given to the winner.
Korda was the 2023 runner-up. If he lost in the final once again in Kazakhstan, the American would get $91,985. The runner-up at the final Asian tournament of the year also gets 165 ranking points.
The two defeated semifinalists at the 2024 Almaty Open will receive $54,075 and 100 rankings. That is still a substantial award and ample incentive for the players in the draw to try to win in the first three rounds.
Some lower-ranked players on the entry list would be disappointed if they did not reach at least the semifinals. However, lower-ranked men know that getting as far as the quarterfinals could substantially improve their ranking.
The 2024 Almaty Open will reward the defeated quarterfinalists with 50 ranking points and $31,335 in prize money. Those points could be the difference between players finishing the season in the Top 20 or Top 50.
Those who progress to the round of 16 of the Almaty Open will receive $18,195 and 25 points. Players who fail to advance past the first round at ATP 250 tournaments receive no points but will still pocket $11,120.
Professional players always want to win regardless of the financial rewards on offer. However, having substantial prize money could incentivize the men on the entry list to give even more effort in Kazakhstan.
