The 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel will take place without a reigning champion from October 24 to October 30 at St. Jakobshalle for the first time since 2019.
The defending champion of this ATP 500 event, Roger Federer, has won the Swiss Indoors in Basel ten times overall since 2006. However, the Swiss Maestro isn't listed as a competitor this year because he wrapped off his career at the 2022 Laver Cup alongside his close friend Rafael Nadal.
The first-seeded player in Basel is world no. 1 in the ATP Rankings, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard will try to strengthen his position on top of the rankings but he will be facing a difficult draw as his first opponent will be talented Jack Draper.
Casper Ruud is the second-seeded player in Basel and he will begin against one of the three home players in the draw, Stan Wawrinka. Former world no. 1, Andy Murray is also taking part at the event as he will play against Sebastian Korda in the first round.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, no. 3 in Basel, will start against another Swiss player in the draw Marc-Andrea Huesler. Marin Cilic and Roberto Bautista Agut are yet to know their first round opponents as they will meet one of the qualifiers.
