After hours of battling, Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber sealed the win for Germany against Italy at the 2024 United Cup.

Even before the competition started, this tie was singled out as a pretty crucial one and the way it unfolded certainly backs that claim up. Angelique Kerber was the first player out for Germany taking on Jasmine Paolini.

She didn't win, putting a lot of pressure on Alexander Zverev, and it was a tricky match for him. He lost the opening set but won the next two to give Germany a fighting chance, but it would come down to the troubles.

Well, even if they weren't scheduled to play, Zverev and Kerber suited up because this tie was crucial. It was a pretty good effort from them in their first match in five years, as they kept it simple and won in two sets.

A huge advantage here, in a match against Angelica Moratelli and Lorenzo Sonego, was Zverev's serve, especially when he found his rhythm in the long match against Sonego.

Kerber did what she needed to compliment Zverev enough, and they won the opening set. The Italians had plenty of chances, but they never really found their best tennis in crucial moments, which was a huge reason why they lost the match.

The second set opened on an early break by the Germans 3-0, and from there they were able to largely keep it painless after that. Breaking once more and taking a 5-0 lead isn't a bad way to do so.

In any case, the final score was 6-3 6-0 for the Germans as they secured the win for Germany 2-1. It was a pretty spectacular showing tennis-wise from the pairing.

They also showed off some impressive chemistry ahead of the 2024 Olympics, for which they will also want to team up for.
